TELLY WESTERLAGE

Prior to founding Friesell Westerlage, PLLC with John Friesell, Mr. Westerlage was employed as an independent contract property claims adjuster in Texas for over 17 years. He worked in several capacities in the claims services industry, addressing the needs of residential, industrial, and commercial policyholders in daily and major catastrophic environments. Daily claims include wind, hail, lightning, fire, smoke, theft, vandalism, and malicious mischief. Catastrophic events include hurricane, tornado, wind storms, and earthquakes.

Mr. Westerlage’s experience in the insurance industry is advantageous to the firm for two reasons. First, he has first-hand knowledge of the specific steps taken by insurance claim representatives in handling claims made against the insurance carrier. He is familiar with multiple policies and the various areas of property insurance coverage in Texas. He has many years of experience analyzing and interpreting insurance policy language which provides and excludes coverage for damaged property. Second, Mr. Westerlage worked with well over twenty different insurance carriers as an independent claims adjuster. As a result, he is very familiar with the various claims investigation methods, coverage interpretations, and claims adjusting guidelines under which insurance carriers seek to control the claims process.

Moreover, Mr. Westerlage understands the obligations and duties of the insurance carrier and the policyholder when insured property sustains damage. His personal experience as an insurance claim professional is vital in assisting the needs of policy holders who need help with their insurance claim disputes.

In addition to personally handling thousands of property insurance claims, Mr. Westerlage has actively participated in insurance litigation defense, as well as numerous mediations, and appraisals that were conducted to resolve claim disputes between insurance companies and property owners.

Mr. Westerlage’s career experience of over 17 years as an insurance claims professional and his extensive contacts in the real estate and construction industries gives him a unique insight into insurance law while serving the needs of his clients who have been mishandled, underpaid, or denied coverage of the insurance claim payments that are owed.

JOHN FRIESELL

Mr. Friesell is an attorney licensed to practice in the State of Texas since 1997. He was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for Southern District of Texas in 1998. He was admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Southern District of Texas in 1999 and was admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court in 2012.

Mr. Friesell has represented over 100 clients as lead counsel before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. This experience has included numerous oral arguments before the Court. He has also represented clients before the United States Supreme Court and has obtained the requested relief of remand from the Supreme Court to the Fifth Circuit. In addition to his appellate practice, he has also served as lead counsel for more than 100 clients in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. His service as lead counsel in the United States District Court has included several jury trials including multi-week trials in complex cases.

Mr. Friesell’s extensive trial and appellate experience of over 18 years combined with Mr. Westerlage’s 17 years of insurance industry experience makes Friesell Westerlage, PLLC an exceptional and powerful team.
